If you had NFL Sunday ticket last season…
YouTube and/or YouTube TV will automatically charge you full price for it for the upcoming season (2026) a few weeks from now on August 8th.
To avoid this, you need to sign into your YouTube or YouTube TV account and under “Settings” click “Manage Subscriptions” and cancel it. Keeping it alive on your account disqualifies you for the possibility to get it for less dough this upcoming season. Once you cancel it, you will still be able to see old games and content until August 8th.
How much of a discount are we talking about? Last season (2025), the package cost $378. I already subscribed to YouTube TV, so the deal I got was $282. I saved $96!! But new subscribers can get an even better deal.
If you’ve never ever had NFL Sunday Ticket…
There are two ways that you can buy it: via YouTube or YouTube TV. They are different. Both are $240 for the season. IMO, YouTube TV is better. That’s because YouTube TV comes with an unlimited DVR in the cloud to record any (ALL) of the NFL Sunday Ticket games and watch them anytime you want. You can pause live TV, rewind during a live game, and fast-forward through commercials – except the ones I’m in, right?
If you buy NFLST via YouTube (not YouTube TV), you will only be able to watch games live with commercials or watch a recording of the game AFTER it is finished.
Think of YouTube TV (not YouTube) as you would a cable company. You can watch YouTube or YouTube TV on your Smart TV via their app. They have different apps because they are different. Have I drilled that “different” concept home yet?
In 2023, when I first purchased NFL Sunday Ticket from YouTube (not YouTube TV), I did not understand that I’d have to watch live with commercials or else a recording AFTER the game ended. In 2024, I ditched my cable TV provider and signed up for YouTube TV. Then I purchased NFL Sunday Ticket and DVR’d every game that aired and zipped through all the commercials. EVERY GAME! I didn’t watch every game, but I couldda.

Hi Eric, When the NFL season is about to start, I post strategies about how to get it free – if possible. What I know is not possible, is that if you haven’t cancelled it from the previous season, DirecTV will tell you that you cannot get it for free because your subscription auto-renewed (you didn’t cancel it). They will start charging you automatically for payments in August. They will not negotiate with you if you have an active subscription. So, I suggest cancelling now. Then in August – September, call to see if any discounts are available on your account – including free NFL Sunday ticket.
