Like swallows returning to Capistrano, it’s time for my annual post about getting NFL Sunday Ticket at a discount. Before YouTube had NFLST, DirecTV used to hand it out like candy to keep us subscribing to channels that we never watched. But no more free lunch.
New users can buy NFL Sunday Ticket for $240, but it is $378 or $480 for returning users.
If you are a returning user like me…
It’s time to pick up the phone. I called last week and told them that my next-door neighbor got a targeted offer of $96 off the $378 price. They said they’d offer that to me if I would pull the trigger right now.
Then I asked if it was possible to get it for free. That was my way of adjusting where they were looking – kinda like how a pitcher throws a fastball high in the strike zone before tossing a change-up low and away.
The lady came back and said they were not able to give it away for free, but that she could increase the discount to $144 off. Done. The $144 reduction from $378 to $234 is 38% off. Let’s call it 40% off because talking myself into a luxury purchase is fun! It also sounds better. Heck 40% off is almost like half off, which is practically free, amiright?
That $144 off price of $234 makes it lower than the $240 come-on offer they give to new subscribers. That move avoids my pet peeve of new users getting a better deal than faithful customers. You should feel seen, YouTube marketing department.
If you’ve never ever had NFL Sunday Ticket…
There are two ways that you can buy it: via YouTube or YouTube TV. They are different. Both are $240 for the season. IMO, YouTube TV is better. That’s because YouTube TV comes with an unlimited DVR in the cloud to record any (ALL) of the NFL Sunday Ticket games and watch them anytime you want. You can pause live TV, rewind during a live game, and fast-forward through commercials – except the ones I’m in, right?
If you buy NFLST via YouTube (not YouTube TV), you will only be able to watch games live with commercials or watch a recording of the game AFTER it is finished.
Think of YouTube TV (not YouTube) as you would a cable company. You can watch YouTube or YouTube TV on your Smart TV via their app. They have different apps because they are different. Have I drilled that “different” concept home yet?
In 2023, when I first purchased NFL Sunday Ticket from YouTube (not YouTube TV), I did not understand that I’d have to watch live with commercials or else a recording AFTER the game ended. In 2024, I ditched my cable TV provider and signed up for YouTube TV. Then I purchased NFL Sunday Ticket and DVR’d every game that aired and zipped through all the commercials. EVERY GAME! I didn’t watch every game, but I couldda.
If you’d like to get YouTube TV…
Here’s my YouTube TV referral link which will get you $15 off, as well as the Basic plan for a discount. Then add NFL Sunday Ticket for $240 for the season in your Settings.
