This is the time of year when credit card bonuses balloon. That’s because the card companies know people spend a lot during the holidays. Southwest just rolled out a huge 75,000 bonus which you will receive if you spend $3,000 on the card in the first three months that it is open. I got it myself!

If you want a slew of Southwest points, this is great. You can meet the spend without wasting money. Check out my post 11 Ways To Meet A Spending Requirement.

Thanks for clicking on this Airline Credit Cards widget below to get more info. Full disclosure: If you click on “Apply Now” – you will be whisked away to another secure site. There you will find the Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus card is currently the seventh one down the page. I can get a commission if you get there via ChipsMoneyTips.com. So… Thanks for clicking my link below! Email me if you have any questions.

There is a $69 annual fee on the Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus credit card. The offer ends 12/11/23. You can get this card and bonus if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months. This does not apply to Business Card and Employee Credit Card products.

So… if you want this card offer, and already have a personal Southwest card, you’d close your current Southwest card and then apply the next day for this new card. Not sure if you received a Southwest new cardmember bonus in the past 24 months? Check your Southwest Rapid Rewards point activity at Southwest.com.

If you decided to cancel your current Southwest card, and have another personal Chase card, call the number on the back of your current Southwest card and ask them to move the credit line to your other Chase card and then close your Southwest card. This will help keep your score up.

You longtime readers know that I am a huge fan of Southwest’s Companion Pass. Yes, I will use this to help me attain that.

If you don’t know how glorious the Southwest Companion Pass is, read more here. In short, whenever you fly Southwest, whether you paid for your flight with cash or points, your companion flies with you for free. Heck, you could do this daily! Whenever means whenever. The Southwest Companion Pass has saved me thousands of dollars. It even works for international flights. You can also change who you designate as your companion up to three times each calendar year! Although your companion’s ticket is free, you will have to pay the TSA security fee of $5.60 one-way, or $11.20 round-trip. It’s pretty great!

I applied for this card. When it showed up yesterday, I called the number on the back of the card. I asked to have the closing date of my card set for the 4th of the month. I am not going to use this card until December 5th. I have a property tax bill, and a couple insurance bills that will meet the spend for me. My 75,000 bonus points (+3,000 points for spending $3,000 on the card) will hit my Southwest account when the statement closes January 4, 2024. I will be on my way to another Companion Pass!
