Nfl Sunday Ticket Box

Get NFL Sunday Ticket for FREE

(UPDATED 8/18/15) I’ve gotten NFL Sunday Ticket for free – FOUR years in a row!  That’s a nice little run.

Here are a few ways you can get it free (Tweet it):

A) You could steal it. But, it’s probably best to not spend the 7th day resting while simultaneously shattering one of The Commandments.

B) You can get it free if you are a new customer to DirecTV, and sign a two-year contract with the “Choice” package or higher.  If you apply via this link, I get a taste from them.  It’s the same deal for you, but I get a li’l sumthin’, and isn’t that what life’s all about?

DirecTV_Refer_Friend-smOr… if you are going to be a new customer to DirecTV, you can also get $100 off if you are referred by someone who has it. The referrer also gets $100 in statement credits. Order online at or by calling 1-800-507-4045. Please give them my account number 15929124 when asked who referred you – so we can both get rich. Rich, I tell you. RICH!

C) If you are already a DirecTV subscriber and eschew thievery, here’s the first step I took to getting it free. I called DirecTV. I told the robot that I wanted to “disconnect service”. This got me a human in “Customer Retention”.  If you aren’t going to utter the words…

“Disconnect Service” – just hang up the phone. You are wasting your time.

Here’s how I got it free the past few years.

In 2012…

I got it free when I finally upgraded from standard def to HDTV.  No word as to when I will upgrade from candelabras to lamps.

In 2013…

I politely asked MJ in Customer Retention if there was any way I could get NFL Sunday Ticket for free. MJ looked at my account, which is already maxed out with discounts, and said she could give me NFL Sunday Ticket for free if I agreed to keep DirecTV for a year. This did not extend my contract a year. I just can’t cancel DirecTV for 12 months or I’d have to pay a cancellation fee of $10/month. Your results may vary, but it’s worth a call. Done and done. I saved $224.95.

In 2014…

I had a different experience.  On my first call, they only offered to drop the price $48.  No bueno.  FYI: 2014 price for NFL Sunday Ticket is now $239.94.  NFL Sunday Ticket MAX is $329.94.

I called back a few days later.  I simply asked Tiffany in Customer Retention, “Is there any way I can get NFL Sunday Ticket for free?”  She could not offer me anything off the regular package, but said she could get me NFL Sunday Ticket MAX for half-price or $164.97.  This is the package that allows one to play it on multiple devices, among other things.

I thanked her but said that was more than I wanted to spend.  She asked me if I had seen other offers from competitors.  I said I knew they existed, but had not pursued them.

She said that they valued my long-time loyalty, so she was able to drop another $100 off the price.  Now we are at $64.97.  That’s only $4/game.  I would have accepted that, but figured I had one more move.  I thanked her, but asked if there was any way I could work out some kind of discount for the less expensive regular package, so I would have less out of pocket.

Tiffany said because of my long time loyalty and perfect payment record, she could give me a one time courtesy credit of $64.97.  TOUCHDOWN!  What surprised me the most is that I didn’t have to try very hard.  Give it a shot!

In 2015…

There are two packages.  NFL SUNDAY TICKET 2015 is $251.94 and NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX is $353.94. With NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX, you’ll have access to all the regular NFL SUNDAY TICKET features, plus additional enhanced features such as RED ZONE CHANNEL, FANTASY ZONE CHANNEL, Short Cuts, plus mobile and online access.

After three years of getting it free, I’m running into some difficulty in Year Four.  I called three days in a row.  Each time, their offer got better.

1st call: Best they could do was give me MAX for half off.  That came to $176.97.
2nd call: Nicole offered me MAX for half off ($176.97) + free Showtime for 4 months.  They also took $3 off my Regional Sports package for 12 months.  I accepted the $3/month discount, but declined MAX and Showtime.
3rd call: Vicky offered me MAX for less than half off ($167.96).  I said that I liked the football but wasn’t sure it was worth it to watch my Bengals.  Then she said she could offer me a one-time statement credit of $85.  That brought it down to a total of $83.98.  That’s about $5/game which is reasonable, but I politely declined.  She said she will keep that offer in my file and I can let them know later.  I figure I will call again next week.  Stay tuned!
(UPDATED 8/18/15 — TOUCHDOWN + 2 Point Conversion!)
4th call: It’s been two weeks since my last call. This time my approach was slightly different. I did not mention NFL Sunday Ticket at the beginning (in case they were on to me; how could they NOT be?). I simply asked if there were any promotions available. Christina thanked me for calling. She mentioned that someone had spoken to me two weeks ago. Then she asked how much I wanted to spend every month. That would have veered off into the wrong discussion. I redirected by saying that when I spoke to them a couple weeks ago, I was told to call back to ask if any promotions were available on my account.

Christina blew me away! “I see there is a $40 off per month for 12 months, with a 1 year agreement,” she said. Then I asked if she had any NFL Sunday Ticket promotions. She said that I qualified for the NFL Sunday Ticket MAX (the more expensive $330 version). She said that would actually give me $5 more off per month. I was concerned that there was a miscommunication. I feared that I was going to get $45 off per month but have to pay for NFL Sunday Ticket. NOPE. $45 off/month PLUS NFL Sunday Ticket Max for free!

Just like how you don’t want to leave a fishing spot when they are jumping on your hook, I asked if there were any HBO or Showtime promotions. I had just cancelled those a few weeks ago because the shows I watched ended, as did my discounts. I also thought it might be easier to get something for free if I didn’t have it on my account. I guess I was right.  Christina said she could give me HBO, Showtime and Cinemax for 3 months free.  She also said I could get a free upgrade to their wireless genie system but I held off.

Get in there. The fish are jumpin’!  See my account update below.  No foolin’ ’round.

If you had NFL Sunday Ticket last year, you will automatically get billed for it. You have until the season starts to cancel that. I cancelled the auto-billing of NFL Sunday Ticket on my account before making the calls to Customer Retention.

First call to DTV today. Told the robo receptionist I wanted to Discontinue Service. Penny came onto the line and asked how she could help. I told her I was needing to save money and that I was thinking of taking an offer from Comcast for a lower monthly rate. She offered -$52 a month for 6 months. -$40 a month the next six months. Sunday ticket for free with a $102 ($17/6 mos) upgrade to Max. Thanks for the suggestions!

  2. Chip

    Nice job!

Just called today, after we cancelled the NFL package before the first autocharge for renewal. Our contract was to expire next July. We have the Choice package. We’ve been customers for over 10 years.

Talked to retention and she offered me $30 off per month for a year, if I extended to Sept rather than July. Also, 1/2 price NFL max (41.99 X 4). I asked her if that was the best she could give me, and she said, I can also credit back the first 41.99 payment and give you SHO free for 4 months (and it will drop at the end, not automatically stay on). I’m IN. Happy that I’ll be able to watch my Steelers play :)

  4. Chip

All I ask is that you let my Bengals win one of our games.

  5. m

What do you do with all the $100 referrals you get?

  6. Chip

If I get a $100 referral credit, DirecTV applies it to my personal bill at$10 per month for 10 months. I think I have had four in my lifetime. It’s not a lot, but $100 is $100!

Not great luck for me so far. I called once last week and talked to the customer retention person for direct tv and they only offered $9 off per month for regular Sunday ticket. I also got a $10 off per month discount for the entire DirecTV package, the same one that they typically take off your deal the first 12 to 24 months.

I called back today and a different customer retention lady told me that the last offer that I got, $9 off per month, will the best they could give me. My DirecTV account only has a contract through early October, so not for sure if i will be able to get more off before then. Maybe I need to be a little more aggressive and threaten to cancel my account. She even told me that if I canceled Sunday Ticket today that I would no longer be eligible for the $9 off Sunday Ticket discount. Talk about bad luck.

  8. Chip

Some of these reps are very tight. One even lied to me saying they do not offer free Sunday Ticket. Maybe you got a bad apple. I say try again, be polite and ask if there are any discounts available on your account. See where that takes you. Good luck!

Oh my I love you Chip. I called Directv today. I have several accts for my home and vacation rentals, and sometimes cancel service, get a new agreement and open in a childs name (my 18 yr old) for free NFL Sunday ticket. I do not mind paying when I have a good year, but due to fires, had a crappy $ year. I called and said ” DISCONNECT SERVICE” AS YOU SUGGESTED. I told the nicest guy “Malcom” that I could not afford my bill (I cannot) and wanted to disconnect, but really wanted Sunday ticket, and did they have specials. We chatted, he was so nice, and he gace me free Sunday ticket and $30 off a month for a year off my bill, if I stay a year. To me, that was enough, I told him otherwise, I would have my son open an acct for Sunday ticket at the same address and cancel mine, he laughed and just plain helped me out. Thanks so much

  10. Chip

That’s great, Martina! According to my abacus, that’s a savings of $360 + NFL SundayTicket. Well done!

  11. JR

I think it could also be that I said “change service/package” instead of “cancel service”

After saying “customer retention” they then ask if you want to change services (such as drop Sunday Ticket) or cancel your sevice.

Next time I’ll say “cancel service” at the beginning.

    Thanks for the encouragement Chip!!

Winner winner chicken dinner!! Have been a customer for almost 20 years. paid full price last year for max. Canceled max at the beginning of august this year when auto renew kicked in.

Called directv just now, said “Disconnect service” when voice prompted
They patched me to customer retention, I then explained that raising 4 kids and money being tight, combined with the need to watch my home team (browns) while at kid’s baseball games did they have any offers for Sunday ticket max, since I have been a customer for almost 20 years.

    1. Gave me Sunday Ticket for FREE with 1 year agreement
    2. Gave me Max for $17/mo for 6 mo
    3. Gave me a $10 advanced receiver credit for 12 mos
    4. Gave me an addition $5 credit for 6 mos

Total cost = $12!!! BINGO BANGO – winner winner chicken dinner!!

  13. Chip

I think if you told them you are a long suffering Browns fan, they would have comped yo for life. Or tried to talk you out of watching entirely! :) Good job David!

thanks for the advice Chip! and glad i found this site for sure!!! Yes being a Cleveland fan should be rewarded continuously!! I was at the 1980 Sipe interception in front of the Wizard of Oz; was at the Drive Game, was at the Byner fumble game too…bad memories…in fact, Art Modell was a member of my synagogue! I should probably NOT go to championship games anymore :)

  15. TJJ

Just called and was able to get Sunday Ticket Max as well as $30 off per month + $10 off for receivers for 12 months. Thanks!!

  16. Ernie

Called yesterday and all I was offered was $5.00 off. Called today and the representative immediately offered 45 dollars off for 12 months, all premium channels for free for 4 months. This is with NFL ticket and Redzone. My bill is now 115.

    Keep trying!!!

  17. Chip

Well done, Ernie. For some reason, different reps offer different deals. That was a very valuable followup call you made.

  18. Mark

Called and got Max for free and 25 off my bill monthly!!! Thanks for the help chip!!!

  19. Chip

    Well done, Mark!

  20. Todd

    Thanks Chip.
Tried calling regular customer service. All they offered was $5 off for 6 months. No sale.
Then I called today and said “cancel service”. Got to customer retention. Told Gabby that I would like Sunday ticket for free. She asked if I got it free last year. I said no. She said she could get Sunday Ticket for free as well as $20 off/month for 12 months if I agree to commit to 12 months. Not too shabby! Thanks again for the inside info.

What are the options for someone in contract? I signed new client 2 year contract last fall, and got the free Sunday ticket. But now of course they want me to pay the rate. Do I have any bargaining power?

Being a 11 year customer with DTV, with Premier and some add-ons that ran me $170.00 a month, I finally got tired of the annual song and dance. I cut the cord and have my viewing needs filled by a combination of OTA local stations, Netflix, SlingTV Showtime, and several Roku stations that fill in the void. All of this costs about the same as the “fees” on my monthly DTV bill, <$40.00.

For the NFL I just used my VPN to purchase the International Game Pass package (connect to a non USA server and you are golden).. I connect my Macbook Pro to the big screen via HDMI and get a perfect 1080p picture and all the features of the bogus day-after USA Game Pass for $135.00 a year.

I am so happy to be rid of DTV. As an 11 year, high value customer they could give a rats ass about me until I tell them I am about to cancel. Yet they grab their ankles, giving away their only differentiating product, Sunday Ticket, to attract new customers. Eff 'em! It felt good to give them the boot and I am saving about $1600.00 a year while having my viewing needs satisfied.

Chip, you are a friggin’ **** for deleting my truthful post about DTV. With you sucking up their payments for you to host DTV banners on your site, it is no wonder you are a disingenuous, hind-tit sucking POS.

I’m not sure what they’ll say, but you should I’d certainly call Customer Retention to see.

Just called and things went way better than expected! The actuall call took 26 minutes for me to drop my bill from $143 per month down to $98.00! They also offered me the NFL Package (main reason for call), new upgraded equipment and 3 months of free HBO, Showtime and Cinemax! Upon calling I asked for customer retention and prompted to see if I was under any kind of contract. The representative confirmed I wasn’t which I then said I was offered another deal thru Time Warner which if they couldn’t match or beat, I was considering canceling my service. To say the least, it worked like a charm! There was actually no hesitation from the representative! Thanks for all the help and past experiences in this blog!!
